The Walking Dead's Josh McDermitt Goes Off On Fat Shaming Bullies

12/07/2016 01:46 pm EST

Alanna Masterson, a star of The Walking Dead, was bullied on social media for her appearance, after the actress made her season debut a couple of weeks ago. A large group of trolls on the Internet harassed Masterson for an apparent weight gain, despite just having a child in the months before filming.

While Alanna took to Instagram to put these bullies in their place, which she did with grace and sophistication, some of her co-stars came to her defense.

Josh McDermitt, who plays Eugene on the show, called out these bullies during an interview with Huffington Post. Once the topic of Alanna's handling of the trolls was addressed, McDermitt had some thoughts.

"She just had a kid. That's why she hasn't been in the first six episodes because she was recovering from pregnancy and then people are talking trash about her appearance, and it's like, screw you."

It was clear that the actor wasn't holding back. He continued to light a fire against these Internet bullies in defense of everyone who has been picked on.

"I'm going to bully you into stop bullying. That's what I feel like we need to do. I don't know how this is gonna work, but we have to stop bullying each other and calling people out for their appearance."

He continued, "People need to chill the F out with the crap that they're putting on the internet. It's very disturbing because we are people, everyone. And I'm not talking about actors. I'm talking about anyone on the internet. I mean, I just read something on CNN the other day where a teenage girl committed suicide who was cyber bullied. This is bullshit. This should never happen."

Many stars speak out about certain causes, but sticking up for the little guy is one of the most noble. Hollywood could use more folks like Alanna Masterson and Josh McDermitt, and maybe there could be an end in sight to the epidemic of cyber-bullying.
