Since the season six cliffhanger on The Walking Dead, Negan has become a household name. Everyone is wondering who Negan killed in the finale, and praising the performance of Jeffery Dean Morgan's take on the role.
Before his debut, however, fans of the comics were begging to see him on the show.
That's because, since issue #100, Negan has become a favorite character to lovers of the series. Yes, he's a villain, but he's such a charismatic and brilliantly written character that you can't help but enjoy reading his part.
Walking Dead fans can't imagine the series without Negan anymore, but Robert Kirkman has revealed that the time may be coming.
In a panel at New York Comic Con on Thursday, Robert Kirkman revealed that he knows he will kill Negan, and that we almost didn't get to explore the character for more than five issues.
This is what Kirkman had to say:
"When I run out of ideas for Negan, I'll just kill him....Negan was supposed to die at the end of the Something to Fear arc. He was originally supposed to be in the book for only four or five issues....It was supposed to end when Maggie takes over the Hilltop. Rick was going to deliver Negan's head in a box to Maggie to say, 'I'm sorry.'"
First off, only five issues of Negan?! That's crazy to think about, now that he is such a big part of the series.
Secondly, this means that, unlike Carl or Rick, Negan is an expendable character. Once Kirkman is out of material, he won't struggle to find more. He will, indeed, get rid of Negan without hesitation.
Some think that this may be happening sooner rather than later.
In the latest issue, #159, Negan broke his beloved bat, Lucille. Since Negan projects this object to be his wife, his already damaged psyhce will dive even further our of reality. He even mentioned being ready to die.
Could this be the beginning of the end for Negan?
