Doctor Who Returning To SDCC For Peter Capaldi Farewell Panel

With the airing of tonight's season finale of Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi is preparing to say farewell to the iconic role. But before Capaldi's version of the Doctor regenerates in the upcoming Christmas special, the show will reportedly make a very special pit stop at this year's San Diego Comic Con.

Deadline is reporting that a Doctor Who panel is scheduled for the annual convention on Sunday, July 23rd. While details are slim, the panel is expected to include Capaldi, as well as departing showrunner Steven Moffat and other members of the cast and crew.

The panel will reportedly take place in Hall H, perhaps the most iconic panel room in the whole convention center.

Another BBC America property set to appear at Hall H is Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. After debuting its first fall trailer at 2016's SDCC, Dirk Gently is set to bring stars Samuel Barnett, Elijah Wood, Hannah Marks, and Fiona Dourif, as well as executive producer and writer Max Landis, and showrunner Robert Cooper to the 2017 festivities.

For Who fans, these SDCC festivities are sure to be noteworthy. Whether or not the panel will give a glimpse at the upcoming Christmas special has yet to be seen, but fans will certainly enjoy the opportunity to bid farewell to the current Doctor.

Peter Capaldi took over as The Doctor in Season 8, after Matt Smith's departure. After three seasons, he will depart the show alongside showrunner Steven Moffat, who has steered the series since Season 5. Moffat was a breakout writer during the Russell T. Davies seasons of Doctor Who.

Moffat will be handing the reins over to Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall for Doctor Who Season 11. Chibnall is a longtime Doctor Who fans who also wrote for the series during the Russell T. Davies era and was head writer on the Doctor Who spinoff series Torchwood.

Doctor Who Season 10 also introduces Pearl Mackie as the new companion, Bill Potts, replacing the previous companion, Jenna Coleman's Clara Oswald, who left after Season 9.

The Doctor Who Season 10 finale airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET on BBC America.
