The Handmaid's Tale: Hulu Debuts Chilling Promo Ahead Of Episode 4

If you watched The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu at some point this week, you've learned that the new series isn't messing around. The post-apocalyptic world featured in the show is haunting, to say the least.

Hulu released the first three episodes of the series on Wednesday, April 26, and a new episode will debut on the streaming service every Wednesday for the next seven weeks. So, if you're a fan of the series, you've probably watched three episodes to this point.

Ahead of the fourth episode, Hulu has released a cryptic and terrifying teaser for the next installment.

It's only 15-seconds long, but the promo shows Offred in an all-white room. There are doctors around her, looking to poke and prod, and she looks scared out of her mind.

In episode three, Offred reveals that she isn't actually pregnant, and she's punished for her honesty. This scene looks like it could be the work of her Serena, who is devastated by the fact that she doesn't have a child on the way. This could be her way of getting confirmation that Offred isn't lying, yet it could also just be another chilling trap for one of the handmaids to fall into.

The new episode of The Handmaid's Tale will debut on Hulu at 12:01am PT on May 3.

Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized "return to traditional values." As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander's household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.
