It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Star Confirms Show Is On Extended Hiatus

Before its twelfth season premiere, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was renewed for two more seasons, and when Season 14 arrives, FXX's original comedy series will officially tie The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet as the longest-running live-action comedy series in television history.

But before it can be etched into the record books, the show has to get its thirteenth season out of the way. However, according to one its stars, it will be awhile before we find out if Dennis is gone for good and if Charlie put a bun in the Waitress' oven after the glue-sniffing stalker had his ultimate wish fulfilled -- which he instantly regretted.

"We ended up pushing our next season a year because we were all busy with separate projects this year," Kaitlin Olson told TV Guide, confirming an extended hiatus. "So at the end of this coming shooting season of The Mick I'll step right into Sunny after that."

Based on those remarks and factoring in that the past three seasons have premiered in January, Season 13 may not arrive until 2019. Aside from Olson working on the second season of The Mick, Rob McElhenney is directing the Minecraft movie, Danny DeVito is starring in a Broadway play, and Howerton is working on an NBC pilot.

If Howerton's show is picked up, it has been speculated that Dennis will spend next season in North Dakota living the normal life with his son and his baby mama (Christine Woods). TV Guide did add: "Olson said the hiatus isn't to accommodate [Howerton] and she doesn't know what his plans are."

Season 12 Finale (titled "Dennis' Double Life") - Dennis reveals he has a baby from his Wade Boggs layover in North Dakota. Everyone offers a solution for how to get him out of this jam. Mac suggests they pretend to be a couple and Frank wants to make the broad a "decent" proposal b/c $1 million for sex is indecent. In the end, Dennis has to decide which life he wants to continue to lead. Written by Charlie Day & Glen Howerton & Rob McElhenney; Directed by Matt Shakman.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was created by Rob McElhenney. He also serves as the show's executive producer along with Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Michael Rotenberg, Nick Frenkel, Tom Lofaro, Scott Marder and David Hornsby. The show is produced by FX Productions.

The cast features Rob McElhenney as Ronald "Mac" McDonald, Glenn Howerton as Dennis Reynolds, Charlie Day as Charlie Kelly, Kaitlin Olson as Deandra "Sweet Dee" Reynolds , and Danny DeVito as Frank Reynolds.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia airs Wednesdays at 10 pm on FXX.
