Old School 'Riverdale' Returns in "Nighthawks" Photos

The CW has released photos for "Nighthawks", the second episode of Riverdale's sophomore season.

The episode will see the residents of Riverdale attempting to save Pop's Diner, with it possibly closing down following the events of the first season finale. The title of "Nighthawks" appears to homage that, as it is most likely a reference to the painting of the same name, which shows people at a '50s diner.

Judging by the photos, both Riverdale High's students and their parents join the proceedings, including Hiram Lodge (Mark Conuselos), who will be making a rather ominous return to the town.

One photo in particular previews something else about the episode - the return of the "old school" Riverdale aesthetic. As fans will remember, an episode of Riverdale's first season featured a surreal dream sequence, in which the show's main characters closely resembled their classic Archie Comics looks.

"I do believe Jughead is just absolutely obsessed with what was once Riverdale, and Betty represents this morality and purity that he associates to this more Peter Pan-like childhood version of Riverdale." Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead Jones, said during a set visit last year. "He finds great comfort in that, and becomes easily accessible and resonates with him."

It remains to be seen if Jughead will be having the dream sequence seen in "Nighthawks", or if it'll be inside another character's mind. Fans will have to wait until the episode airs on October 18th to find out.
