WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg Reportedly Returning for SummerSlam 2021

WWE Hall of Famer and former WCW World Heavyweight and WWE Universal Champion Goldberg will be returning to WWE TV at next week's Monday Night Raw, according to Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp. The former WCW star was last seen on WWE TV at the Royal Rumble, where he came up short in a WWE Championship match with Drew McIntyre that lasted less than three minutes. Sapp's report stated WWE is setting up a program between "Da Man" and WWE Champion Bobby Lashley that will culminate in a match at SummerSlam. Other matches that have been rumored for SummerSlam are Roman Reigns vs. John Cena for the Universal Championship and Edge vs. Seth Rollins.

Prior to his loss against McIntyre, Goldberg had started building up another streak of beating promising world champions. His initial return in 2016-17 saw him beat Kevin Owens in quick fashion to win the Universal title (he dropped it to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33). He then won the title for a second time in early 2020, defeating The Fiend in February 2020 in Saudi Arabia. The second victory was noticeably met with anger from fans online, something Goldberg has addressed in interviews since.

"You know, again, at the end of the day, Ryan, I do a job, right? I'm asked to go out and perform, and I don't pass judgment on it," Goldberg told FOX Sports' Ryan Satin in an interview in January. "I don't worry about a finish. I don't worry about who's winning. I don't worry about who's losing. At the end of the day, I'm there to provide a service, and I do it with a smile on my face either way. And I'm not a booker. I don't make the decisions. I really don't. I just come in and provide "that guy," and the only thing I can do in a situation like that is be the best package that they remember."
