A Dreadstar film is in the early stages of development, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Benderspink and Illuminati Entertainment are joining forces for the project. Dreadstar is a cult favorite comic from Jim Starlin, the writer whose Marvel work includes The Infinity Gauntlet and the most iconic interpretations of Adam Warlock and Captain Marvel. Dreadstar chronicled the adventures of Vanth Dreadstar, the last living being from the Milky Way Galaxy, who battles not one, but two different evil empires with his intrepid crew of alien allies. The character made his debut in Marvel's Epic Illustrated and was so well received that he was given his own comic to launch Marvel's Epic Comics imprint. "Apart from Star Wars, this was my favorite science fiction story growing up," said co-producer J.C. Spink. "Dreadstar is one of the most important comics on the 1980s, paving the way for creators to control their own creations," said co-producer Ford Lytle Gilmore. "After decades of Jim exercising that control and turning away countless Hollywood suitors, I'm excited he's trusting me and J.C. to do it right."
