With Luke Cage's Netflix debut just a few months away, it was only a matter of time before we found out more about the highly anticipated Marvel series. Paul McGuigan, director of Lucky Number Sleven and multiple episodes of Sherlock, confirmed on Twitter that he directed the first two episodes of Luke Cage, which debuts on Netflix on September 30th.
McGuigan directed four episodes of Sherlock, including the first episode "A Study in Pink" and "The Great Game", which introduced Sherlock Holmes' arch-nemesis Moriarty. The Scottish director has a knack for directing pilot and first episodes, having directed the first episodes for Scandal, Devious Maids, Thief and Monroe in addition to the first episode of Sherlock. McGuigan's other directing credit includes the 2009 film Push, which starred Chris Evans, and last year's Victor Frankenstein, which starred James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe.
Luke Cage stars Mike Colter as the title character, with a supporting cast that includes Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodard, and Simone Missick. Daredevil's Rosario Dawson will also reprise her role as Claire Temple. Cheo Hodari Coker is serving as Luke Cage's showrunner and executive producer.
