Fate Of The Furious Trailer Reveals New Cipher Details

Clocking in at 3 minutes long, there was a lot to process in the newest Fate of the Furious trailer, but one thing in particular centered around Charlize Theron's villain, Cipher. Fans know she's somehow blackmailing Dom to turn on his family, but she also brings some very specific skills to the table.

Fans have seen glimpses of the big city sequence in Fate of the Furious (which currently has a 3.54 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings) where cars are falling out of the windows of buildings. Now the reason why that is happening is clear, as Theron's Cipher is seen here in a control room, manipulating them at will. With many cars containing software inside, Cipher has managed to invade the network and take control over hundreds of cars, sending them all after the rest of Dom's group.

This ability will likely be the reason they're also able to commandeer a submarine later on, which sets up a crazy torpedo sequence that you need to see to believe.

There isn't much else known about her character, or what exactly she has over Dom. At one point though she is seen holding up a silver cross, possibly referring to an old friend of Dom's, or maybe even family, since that seems to be the theme of this film from all the trailers, TV spots, and posters.

You can view the official description below.

From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world's stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.

For The Fate of the Furious, Vin Diesel is joined by a returning all-star cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell. In addition to Theron, the series welcomes newcomers Scott Eastwood and Oscar winner Helen Mirren. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and produced by returning producers Neal H. Moritz, Michael Fottrell, and Diesel.

The Fate of the Furious opens in theaters April 14, 2017.
