Capcom is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Dead Rising franchise with a return to what made the series great, to begin with. Loads of zombies to kill, a unique photography system, and Frank West.

"Frank is cooler, he's tougher, a little wiser, but he's still Frank" said Studio Director at Capcom Vancouver Joe Nickolls. Along with the protagonist, the studio also wanted to go back to a familiar location, which turned out to be Willamette, and of course, it's Christmas time, so expect plenty of zombified Santas to be running about the mall.

Part of the fun in Dead Rising games comes from the inventive combo weapons and vehicles you can create, and Dead Rising 4 is giving the player as much leeway with that as possible, even including a slushie machine that Fank can attach to his new Exosuit.

"You have a military grade Exosuit," described Nickolls. "The natural thing you'd hook up to a military Exosuit is a Slurpee machine to send an ice tornado after a bunch of zombies." The mist it blows is even separated into two colors.

Speaking of zombies, there are now three versions of the undead menace roaming the streets and aisles of Willamette now. The Horde is the typical slow moving zombies you've seen in previous games and haven't changed all that much. The second type is called the freshly infected. These are survivors who have just been bitten. These newborn zombies have glowing red eyes, and are unusually aggressive, sprinting at you and requiring more bullets to kill.

The third group is classified as The Evo, and look as if they are down to their bare skin, with red splotches all over their bodies. These types of zombies will not only dodge your attacks but will also use sophisticated strategy like taking cover and flanking.

Dead Rising 4 is shaping up to be something special, and for more insight into the game you can check out the behind the scenes footage in the video above. Dead Rising 4 hits Xbox One on December 6th.
