Game Of Thrones: George R.R. Martin Thinks Winds Of Winter Will Be Out This Year

Oh, when will the winter winds blow? When it comes to Game of Thrones fans, they have been asking that question for quite some time. The hit franchise may find its main platform at HBO these days, but George R.R. Martin is the man who brought it to the life. The fantasy author is the creator of the Song of Ice and Fire series, and its sixth book has been MIA for some time now.

However, its absence may finally come to an end in 2017. Martin has just recently updated fans on the book, and he's hinting that it will hit shelves sometime this year. But, then again, he said the same thing back in 2016.

The author made a comment on his blog over at LiveJournal to address Game of Thrones' slow-moving publication. Here is what Martian had to say to a fan who had asked for a brief update on Winds of Winter:

"Not done yet, but I've made progress. But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now. I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year)."

Back in November, the author gave a short tease about the book's progress on his blog. In the post, he confirmed that his appearance at an international book fair would be his last for 2016 and that this year's schedule was slammed because of his writing.

"This is my last scheduled event for 2016. My appearance schedule for 2017 is very limited, and will remain so until WINDS is completed. So if you want to meet me or get a book signed, this will be the last chance for a good few months…"

Of course, these dates are all flexible. Martin is notorious for approaching work at his own pace, and he will not be bullied into writing a subpar piece of work. With HBO already winding down Game of Thrones without Martin's stories as a guide, the author has a bit of leeway when it comes to finishing his own franchise, A Song of Ice and Fire.

Based on the bestselling fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones is an epic story of treachery and nobility set on the continent of Westeros, where summers and winters can last years, and only the lust for power is eternal. The Emmy® and Golden Globe-winning series has captured the imagination of fans globally, making it one of the most popular shows on television.
