New Video Explains Why Marvel Movies Look Ugly

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is 14 films deep and has grossed more than $10 billion worldwide, there's certainly a lot to celebrate when it comes to seeing your favorite Marvel characters on the big screen. Despite the financial and critical successes Marvel Studios has achieved, some audiences have voiced their complaints with the similarities between all of the films, and in this video essay, Patrick Willems attempts to explain why.
It's hard to argue with Willems' points when looking at the evidence he shows, because no matter what director might be helming the films, they all generally look bland. There's no denying that a sequence like the airport scene in Captain America: Civil War is one of the best in any comic book movie, but imagine how much cooler it could've looked if the film was processed differently in post production? The DC films might not have received the same praise that Marvel has received, but whether you like them or hate them, they definitely make bolder choices with their cinematography.
Let's face it, if the biggest complaint about the Marvel movies is something about the color grading, then the studio is in pretty good shape. Whose movies do you think look better, Marvel's or DC's?
