Preview: Riverdale #2 Embraces Its Breakfast Club Theme

Back when Archie Comics solicited Riverdale #2, we here at ComicBook.com noticed that the description for the comic set in the world of The CW's Archie Comics adaptation, sounded...a bit familiar.

How so? Well, let's ask Archie's mom, who's played by '80s teen movie legend Molly Ringwald.

That's right, folks: They're doing The Breakfast Club in Riverdale -- and they're seriously not even trying to be subtle about it.

Ringwald, who will play Archie's mother, starred in the film alongside Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, and Emilio Estevez.

"I definitely was aware of who she was and the accolades she holds," series star KJ Apa told ComicBook.com during a recent set visit. "It was amazing being able to work with her for an episode."

Now, the publisher has spelled the parallel out for fans, and provided audiences with a look ahead at the issue in the form of unlettered preview pages.

Here's the solicitation text for Riverdale #2, from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and other writers from the TV series along with artist Joe Eisma, which is expected in stores on May 3:
