Riverdale: Will Betty and Trev Be A Thing?

One of the staples of The CW's newest hit, Riverdale, has been the topic of romance. Surprisingly, the iconic love triangle of Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) hasn't been outright addressed for a few episodes, leaving the show open for a myriad of other pairings.

The most recent one occurred in last night's episode 'Heart of Darkness.' Betty, on a quest to uncover details about Jason Blossom's grisly murder, agreed to meet with Trev Brown (Adain Bradley) at Pop's. While Trev appeared to treat it like a real date, Betty assured her friends - and herself - that it was simply to gather information.

But the question remains whether or not Betty and Trev's relationship will remain nothing, or will develop into something more romantic over the course of the show.

As of right now, we can't say one way or another, but looking at Archie Comics' recent history, the later option could be likely.

Trev first appeared in Archie #631 in 2012, and was initially established just as the younger brother of Valerie, a member of The Pussycats. He quickly set his sights on Betty, and the pair dated.

This relationship was also featured in the early issues of Archie's 2015 reboot, which saw Betty rebounding with Trev after breaking up with Archie. To an extent, Betty and Trev getting together on Riverdale would mirror this storyline, with Trev being her first romantic relationship after expressing her feelings for Archie.

Their initial courtship in the 2012 comics raised some eyebrows amongst Betty's friends, with Archie saying at one point that the pair "barely know each other." Archie grew jealous of Trev, in part because he believed Betty wasn't used to "romance in the fast lane."

Realistically speaking, it wouldn't be far off for that sort of situation to occur on Riverdale as well. Archie and Betty have not officially dated in the show yet, with Archie telling her in the pilot that he can't provide her with the kind of relationship she deserves.

Nevertheless, the pair harbor feelings for each other, and seeing Betty get romantic with Trev could cause Archie to further address those feelings, and rethink his relationship with Betty.

In addition, KJ Apa recently mentioned that Archie's relationship with Valerie, Trev's sister, will grow beyond their musical partnership. When Archie and Valerie got together in the comics, Betty and Trev were paired off together around the same time, something that seems more and more likely given the current dynamics on Riverdale.

Even if the pair do not become 'endgame', there's a chance they could briefly be involved on the show.
