Attack On Titan Made [SPOILER'S] Death Much Worse In The Anime

Warning! Spoilers for the latest episode of Attack on Titan rest below!

It's no surprise to hear that Attack on Titan aims to please with its gore. The fan-favorite series has killed scores of characters over the year, and its anime has only made those deaths all the more visceral. From Carla Yeager to even the most secondary of characters, Attack on Titan has managed to make each of its deaths brutal beyond all means. But, in the latest episode of Attack on Titan, the anime took a big step in making one soldier's death overly traumatic.

In "Soldier," fans watched as familiar characters like Connie and Reiner became trapped in the remains of Utgard Castle after running out of weaponry. The group sought solace with other squads such as the one Mike Zacharius used to oversee, but their desired peace was not found. Instead, the gang was ambushed by Titans at night thanks to the Beast Titan. When the monsters managed to breach the castle, Reiner and his friends went to secure the building from the inside while other soldiers like Nanaba and Gelgar used their remaining blades to kill what Titans they could. However, in true anime style, none of the offensive soldiers made it out alive.

In particular, it was Nanaba's death that left an impact on fans. In the manga, the quiet and unassuming character dies as well, but the anime made her death all the more stomach-churning. The comic simply showed Titans pulling at Nanaba as she died with one of her legs already chomped off. However, in the anime, the character was given speaking lines which spoke to a more horrifying past.

As Nanaba was being torn apart, the girl could be heard shrieking in agony and begging for mercy. One Titan began to close his mouth around her head, prompting Nanaba to wait and ask her father to stop - that she would never do it again. The dialogue gave a heartbreaking look into the past abuse Nanaba must have suffered by her father's hand, and then fans had to listen as the soldier had his head ripped off. The scene itself was kept away from the viewers, but the death was made all the more real thanks to Ymir and Krista's sickened expressions as they watched their superior get murdered.
