06/17/2017 02:23 pm EDT

It's official! Attack on Titan may have ended its second season earlier today, but that is not stopping the folks at Wit Studio. In a surprise announcement, the company has just confirmed Attack on Titan will be returning for its third season in 2018.

Following the anime's season two finale, Wit Studio included a title card which announced the next season's debut. The show's official Twitter has since seconded the confirmation with a tweet which can be found below. The short post confirmed Attack on Titan season three is expected to debut next year.

Fans of Attack on Titan are stunned at the revelation given its sudden announcement. The anime debut on TV back in 2013 and only had its second season hit in 2017. The 4-year hiatus was prompted by scheduling issues and Japan's ongoing animation crisis, but Wit Studios seems to be making Attack on Titan its biggest priority for now. Until today, fans had assumed they would be lucky to get a third season in 2019 if then.

There is no exact release date set for Attack on Titan's third season, but fans can expect more information later this year. Wit Studio is hosting an Attack on Titan event in October, so the company may take time then to update fans on the upcoming season.

You can read the synopsis for Attack on Titan season two below:

Eren Jaeger swore to wipe out every last Titan, but in a battle for his life he wound up becoming the thing he hates most. With his new powers, he fights for humanity's freedom facing the monsters that threaten his home.
