Dragon Ball: Goku's Kamehameha Has Changed A Lot Over The Years

If there is one attack Dragon Ball is known for, then it would be the almighty Kamehameha. Even the most out-of-touch fans will recognize the term because of its pop culture popularity, but they may not recognize it these days. After all, Goku's usage of the Kamehameha has changed a lot over the years.

Over on Reddit, a GIF tracking the timeline of Goku's Kamehameha usage is getting otakus buzzing. The clip, which can be found below, shows a young Goku wielding the powerful energy blast against King Piccolo during a climatic duel before it transitions into Goku's latest outing. Dragon Ball Super just showed the hero using the Kamehameha against one of Universe 9's wolf warriors, and the massive blast all but annihilated the poor guy.

Both scenes see Goku using the Kamehameha, but the way the Saiyans wields it are very different. The first instance sees the energy blast as a more concentrated attack which can be moved; Goku is shown weaving the Kamehameha beam around King Piccolo to catch the villain off-guard by then hitting him in the back.

As for the second scene, Goku has a more bombastic take on the Kamehameha. Rather than weaving the energy beam, Goku simply charges all his mighty ki into one widespread attack that relies more on force and less than tactical planning.

If you are not familiar with the Kamehameha move, then you have a lot of history to catch up on. The attack is a favorite amongst Dragon Ball fans that can only be touched by a Spirit Bomb or two. Master Roshi is the man who created the Kamehameha. Anyone who studied under the martial artist could try to learn the move, and Goku took a liking to the attack. Fighters like Krillin and Yamcha can also use the famous attack, but Goku's spin on the Kamehameha has made it the famous assault it is today.

Dragon Ball Super's "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
