It has been awhile since Dragon Ball fans have been hyped about Gohan's strength, but Dragon Ball Super is trying to draw hype out of anime lovers with its current arc. The 'Universal Survival' storyline has been moving at a glacial pace thus far, but the heat is about to get turned up for Goku and his eldest son. Thanks to a newly released synopsis for Dragon Ball Super's 89th episode, fans have learned the Saiyan duo are gearing up to fight one another. And, for fans, the match-up is one they have been waiting for since Dragon Ball Z wrapped its 'Majin Buu' arc.

Thanks to Twitter user @sailorspazz, fans can read up on the translated episode summary below for "

"GOHAN, SURPASS YOUR FATHER!!

The method Piccolo pointed out is?!

Through Piccolo's training, both Gohan's power and will were strengthened!Watch out for Tenshinhan, who fights using peculiar attacks!
His allies are shocked at the change in Gohan!

Goku is surprised at how Gohan has changed, and cannot hide how elated he is that another powerful ally has appeared. After the team battle, he challenges Gohan to a one on one fight?!"

In the most recent episode of Dragon Ball Super, fans watched as Gohan was finally able to tap back into his mystic form after going without it for so long. Marriage and fatherhood dulled the half-Saiyan's fighting skills, but Piccolo has been hard at work bringing them back to par. However, the pair have been training under a strict timeline since the Tournament of Power will being shortly. With so much at stake, Gohan finds his warrior heart reawakened knowing that the fate of Universe 7 rests on his shoulders. So, naturally, the fighter decides it is time he surpassed Goku.

Still, it seems unlikely that Gohan will be able to make such a large jump in such a short amount of time. Piccolo gave his pupil a verbal beatdown about his bullheaded flaws, so Gohan is mentally working at full capacity. He has a lot to make up for physically however, even if he can rely on his mystic form.

Even with Gohan was at his peak form during Dragon Ball Z, his mystic form was only as powerful (if not a bit more so) than Super Saiyan 3. Goku can now easily enter Super Saiyan Blue which gives him much better ki control and godly powers. Gohan will be hard-pressed to still take on a fighter of SSJ3 equivalency let alone a god.

However, fans have still noted their excitement over the showdown. Fans have long wanted to see Gohan and Goku fight properly with the former adopting his mystic form. The father-son duo are about to get serious when it comes to their training. And, as always, fans will get to benefit from watching them energy blast each other into oblivion.

Dragon Ball Super's "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
