Warning! Spoilers for Dragon Ball Super's 108th episode lie below!

The anime fandom makes no excuses for its love of fan-casting, and Dragon Ball enthusiasts love to make their own fantasy match-ups. Golden Freeza and Mystic Gohan have been at the top of many fans' lists, and Dragon Ball Super just made that fight a reality.

Tonight, Dragon Ball Super debuted its 108th episode, and fans were left with whiplash thanks to its storyline. The episode followed Freeza as the Universe 7 fighter seemingly betrayed his team for Frost. To prove his loyalty, Freeza was asked to take down Gohan after the Saiyan finished a grueling match with Jimeze. So, as you can expect, the fighter was quick to power into his golden form.

As you can see here, Freeza pushes himself into his golden form once Gohan takes the match seriously. The Saiyan adopts his ultimate transformation, giving him the power needed to land blow on Freeza. However, Gohan leaves the match a loser when he is knocked unconscious by a blow Freeza sends his way.

Fans were stunned by Mystic Gohan's quick defeat, but Dragon Ball Super went on to explain the fight's outcome. As it turned out, Freeza was simply playing with Gohan to prove his loyalty to Frost. Gohan caught on and faked his knockout to help Freeza's plan out, but the villain admitted he was ready to kill Gohan if need be. It was because Freeza's plan worked that he was able to betray Frost and eliminate the Universe 6 warrior from the Tournament.

The match is one which Dragon Ball fans have wanted to see for ages, but this fight did leave much to desire. After all, both Gohan and Freeza threw the match to fulfill a greater scheme; There's no real way of telling whether a fully powered Mystic Gohan could have won against Golden Freeza one-on-one, so Dragon Ball still owes that fight to fans.
