Dragon Ball Super Producer Teases Goku's New Form

Dragon Ball Super has been out for some time now, but the anime hasn't had fans this hyped since Future Trunks made his comeback. The anime is just now entering the meat of its 'Universal Survival' arc, and Toei Animation has teased Goku may be getting a new form soon. And, now, one of the company's producers is taking that teaser a step further.

Recently, Hiroyuki Sakurada released a statement about Dragon Ball Super's new key visual for the 'Universal Survival' arc. The producer vaguely nodded to the poster and its depiction of Goku powering into what seems to be a new form. You can read the Sakurada's translated comments below:

"The curtain finally rises on the Tournament of Power, where the strongest warriors in the history of Dragon Ball Super are gathering! The new key visual for the Tournament of Power is finally finished! It depicts Goku as he tries to break new ground in order to face off against the mightiest of foes in the midst of the fierce battle that is the Tournament of Power! What sort of formidable foes are in store?! How will Goku battle them?1 And what new ground will he break?! Don't miss Dragon Ball Super as the hype ramps up for the unprecedented battle that will unfold at the Tournament of Power!!"

Translator Todd Blankenship delved deeper into the producer's comments, and the Dragon Ball guru noted a few things. Over on Twitter, the fan said Sakurada does not literally come out and say Goku is entering a new form, but the discussion of "new ground" is a major indicator. That is, if fans could not spot the transformation themselves given Goku's overhauled look in the Dragon Ball Super promo.

So far, there is no word on what kind of form Goku will level up into with the 'Universal Survival' arc, but fans have their hopes. Rather than the hero powering into a new Super Saiyan form, fans hope Goku takes his God Ki to a new level. The Saiyan can already go Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue, but Goku does not have full control of his godly ki. If Goku can harness the full power of his God Ki, then the hero may enter a state similar to Mystic Gohan down the road.

The synopsis of Dragon Ball Super's current saga can be read here: "According to an invitation that Goku gets, Zen-Oh (Omni King) is starting a martial arts tournament between all the universes called "Chikara no Taikai" (Tournament of Power). But it is the beginning of universal destruction. Something awaits the winners and losers of this tournament. What will become of this fierce team battle between each universe's elite warriors?"

Dragon Ball Super's "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
