'Tokyo Ghoul' Sequel Manga Licensed By Viz Media

The story of Tokyo Ghoul will continue in a new sequel headed to the United States.

Viz Media has announced that has licensed and will publish Tokyo Ghoul:re by original Tokyo Ghoul creator Sui Ishida in the United States.

Tokyo Ghoul:re will be published under the Viz Signature imprint in print as well as digitally with a "T+" rating.

Per the press release:

"In Tokyo Ghoul:re, the Commission of Counter Ghoul is the only organization fighting the Ghoul menace, and they will use every tool at their disposal to protect humanity from its ultimate predator. Their newest weapon in this hidden war is an experimental procedure that implants human investigators with a Ghoul's Kagune, giving them Ghoul powers and abilities. But both the procedure and the newly formed Qs Squad are untested. Will they become heroes…or monsters?!"

"Fans will not want to miss this riveting sequel, with its cast of colorful new characters and familiar favorites in a story that dives further into the lore of Tokyo Ghoul," said Pancha Diaz, Editor, in a statement. "Follow the Qs Squad this fall as they take on the lethal and often unpredictable attributes of the Ghouls they are charged with hunting!"

The first chapter of Tokyo Ghoul:re is available to pre-order now. The print edition will hit store shelves on October 17, 2017. New volumes will be published bi-monthly.

Tokyo Ghoul:re began publication in October 2014, just one month after the conclusion of the original Tokyo Ghoul series, in Weekly Young Jump. The series introduced a new cast of characters and ran for two years.

The Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul:re manga series have a combined 30 million copies in print and is one of Japan's best-selling manga. The series has been adapted into a live-action feature film. The film will screen in the United States this October.
