Yu-Gi-Oh! Star Reflects On Reprising Yugi For Upcoming Movie

In just a few days, Yu-Gi-Oh! will be making a long-awaited comeback to the U.S. After years of radio silence, Yugi Muto and his gang of Duel Monsters will be returning to theaters in America with Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions. The action-packed film will see the timid hero regain his footing in the dueling sphere as he prepares to graduate college. And, now, the character's iconic voice actor is sharing his thoughts about returning to the role after so long.

Not long ago, Dan Green sat down for an interview about Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions. The actor, who has done Yugi's English voice for years, said that returning to the franchise after several years was something he'd been looking forward to.

"It feels so good to come back after all these years, but it also feels like reuniting with old friends meaning the characters themselves," he explained.

"Being able to give Kaiba a snarky remark or channel the Dark Magician or what have you. Yeah, it feels like returning to really good friends."

Of course, the new Yu-Gi-Oh! movie will have plenty of content to keep nostalgia fans happy. The movie deals primarily with Yugi following the end of the popular 1990s Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. Now separated from his alter-ego Yami, Yugi is left to rediscover his purpose for dueling, but he is thwarted when a new threat from Egypt promises to turn his world upside down. And, as always, Kaiba will be waiting in the wings to make Yugi's life just that much harder.

Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side Of Dimensions will screen in U.S. theaters on January 27, 2017. In Spring 2017, a new Yu-Gi-Oh! anime is also set to hit televisions thanks to TV Tokyo. The new series will follow a hero named Yūsaku Fujiki as he enters the dangerous world of Duel Monsters.
