Aquaman: Watch Dolph Lundgren's Stunning Stunt Work

Right now, fans of the DC Extended Universe are focusing their attention on Justice League, but the franchise has other projects in the works. Filming for Aquaman is officially underway in Australia, and diehard DC fans have been eagerly awaiting set updates. So far, director James Wan has appeased fans with a first-look at Amber Heard as Mera. And, now, fans can get a stunning look at the film's stunt work with Dolph Lundgren.

Earlier this year, confirmation came throughout about Lundgren's role in Aquaman. The actor was brought in to play King Nereus. The character is a new one to Aquaman lore, but he has close ties with Mera. Now, fans can see how Lundgren will approach his role's underwater scenes, and it looks stunning.

In the video above, you can watch as Lundgren works with the film's stunt coordinators. The actor is strapped into a moving track which holds him up by the middle, allowing him to move weightlessly through the air. Some crew members can be seen rushing Lundgren forward as the star acts as if he is swimming forward. And, by the run's end, fans can see how Aquaman's merpeople will move in the upcoming blockbuster.

If you are not familiar with King Nereus, then you may not be the only one. The character was only introduced in Aquaman #19 back in 2013. The character debut during the 'Death of a King' arc which Geoff Johns penned, and the villain is the leader of an exiled group of Atlanteans known as the Xebels. King Nereus sought to ruin Mera for some time as she used to be part of his troupe, and he even later offered to help Orm the Ocean Master take down Aquaman.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds (Steppenwolf), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon), Amber Heard (Mera), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).

The DCEU continues when Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
