Aquaman's Jason Momoa On Making Arthur Curry Cool For A New Generation

In November 1941, the world was introduced to a new superhero who chose to swim rather than fly. Aquaman was brought to life by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger, and the once overlooked hero has become a force to be reckoned with over the years. As a founding member of the Justice League, Arthur Curry is a hero with lots of history, but he will soon get a make-over thanks to Jason Momoa. The actor has been cast to play Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, but the role has come with its downsides. For younger fans, making fun of a hero who they assumed talks to fish is easy, and Momoa says making the character cool again has been hard.

Speaking to Digital Trends, the actor was asked how his past work will help him make Aquaman as cool as other DC icons like Batman or Wonder Woman. Here's what Momoa had to say:

"Well, I think that's really f**king hard...because I'm getting made fun of a little bit," Momoa confessed. "But the cool thing with Aquaman is how it taps into the native culture and that's something that we're only taught a little about, so there's a lot of interesting things."

"I really think it's the right time," Momoa added, referring to Warner Brother's decision to roll out the standalone film.

"It's really cool. Zack is one of those perspectives on it and DC is really getting behind it. It was a ballsy step. They did it, and I'm extremely happy with the world they've created. It's an honor to be part of this."
