How Joss Whedon Got Batgirl Revealed

Wonder Woman is storming theaters around the globe still, but eyes are now shifting towards another anticipated project, Joss Whedon's Batgirl.

Whedon is helming the Batgirl project, but he is also involved with the Justice League movie after Zack Snyder had to step back due to personal reasons. Variety sat down with DC Film's Jon Berg, where he revealed how exactly Whedon's Batgirl came about.

"He's a big part already. We love him. He's a great partner, collaborator; we want him to be ensconced. We bring people by, have general meetings and talk about comics and their favorite superhero movies. With Joss, he saw the master board, and he saw a "Batgirl" title and he said, "You guys seriously want to do 'Batgirl'?" And we said, "Absolutely." He said, "That's my jam."

And the rest was history or so everyone hopes. Wonder Woman successfully brought the DC icon to the big screen and many would love to see Batgirl receive the same treatment. Ironically Whedon once wrote a script for Wonder Woman, but the studio ultimately passed on his treatment.

As for Justice League, it currently has a 4.16 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings, and the official description can be found below.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill(Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds (Steppenwolf), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon), Amber Heard (Mera), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).

Wonder Woman is in theaters now, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
