Stephen Colbert Compares Russia Investigation's Special Counsel Team To Justice League

Leave it to Stephen Colbert to bring the political world and the superhero world together in a single joke.

During one of Colbert's opening monologs on The Late Show last week, the comedian focused on President Donald Trump and the ongoing investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election, which may include investigating Trump for obstruction of justice in the firing of former FBI director James Comey.

Mueller has been assembling his team of top tier legal professionals to work on the investigation, and that has garnered some attention from the press and Colbert as well, who likened the process to assembling a pretty unique superhero group.

"And Mueller is not kidding around here. To find out what happened, he's put together what's been described as an 'all-star legal team," Colbert began. "Yeah, Mueller's like Batman putting together The Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman to put together the Obstruction of Justice League."

Colbert even included a Photoshopped version of the Justice League movie poster with each character's head replaced with a member of Mueller's legal team.

Of course, in the eyes of those who believe President Trump is being treated unjustly by the existence of Mueller's investigation, the lineup may look something more like the Legion of Doom.
