Patty Jenkins On The Differences Between DC's Upcoming Films

This year, the DC Extended Universe seems to be making a push in the right direction. Last year, critics were quick to poke holes in films like Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad after their debuts. However, 2017 hopes to avoid the critical bombing with features such as Wonder Woman and Justice League. In June, the former venture will premiere and give the iconic DC Comics heroine her first live-action standalone. Now, the film's director is opening up about the feature and saying the DCEU's upcoming slate with be as diverse as fans hoped.

In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Jekins talked about Wonder Woman and the choice she made to create an origin story for Diana.

"I always thought the origin story would be the great way to go," she explained. "I love origin superhero stories and I love the simplicity you can have with that journey. Also, there was the fact that no one had done her story and the fact that I love her. So it was a treasure trove of potential."

However, not all of the DCEU's upcoming projects will take a back-to-basics approach. Jenkins said the franchise's various directors all have very different visions for their films.

"I think there's a lot of directors doing cool things," Jenkins stressed.

"I know the storylines for a lot of the films they are working on and they are all vastly different, with very different tones and very different styles of storytelling. ... Jason (Momoa) is off to shoot Aquaman right now and that's such a cool story. It's got its own separate vibe. I'm excited to see each of these films."
