With Wonder Woman's theatrical release date just over a month away, fans are starting to question the advertising method Warner Bros. is taking with the film. Other than a couple of trailers, many haven't seen very much of the world's most popular heroine.
Why the lack of advertising? Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has about 8 trailers and 30 TV spots, November releases Justice League and Thor: Ragnarok already have promotion in place, and Suicide Squad seemed to have way more ads out before it was released last year. So, what gives?
According to the numbers, it seems like the studio has gone with quality or quantity here. In fact, with five weeks left until the film's release, Warner Bros. has spent significantly more on Wonder Woman's advertising, than they did on Suicide Squad's in the same time frame.
Suicide Squad had a lot of trailers and teasers floating around, but they were fairly inexpensive ads. With five weeks left before the film's release, W.B. had spent $2,645,643 on the ads for Suicide Squad. Now, with five weeks left before Wonder Woman, the studio has spent $3,043,212.
How does that make sense?
The Wonder Woman money has been spent on more meaningful opportunities. The movie had ads running during a couple of major events - the Kids Choice Awards and NCAA Basketball Championship. Wonder Woman also had an enormous ad presence at places like Wondercon and SXSW.
Maybe Wonder Woman is getting more exposure than we though. Either way, it still needs a lot more publicity before the film is released in June. Hopefully, we'll see more of Diana Prince once Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits next week.
