First Look at Lugia in Pokemon Go

Thanks to a datamine of recently updated game assets, we have our first look at Lugia in Pokemon Go. The Legendary Pokemon's PokeDex icon was part of a group of new assets found during the recent update.

While not accessible normally in the game, the icons (along with that of several Shiny variants of other Legendary Pokemon) were provided to the site PokemonGoHub.net by the PoGoDev group. You can take a look at all the icons in the gallery above.

Lugia was first introduced in Pokemon Gold and Silver as one of Johto's Legendary duo. In Pokemon canon, Lugia is considered to be the master of the Legendary Bird trio Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. Lugia was also the star of the second Pokemon movie.

Lugia appears to be the "face" of Pokemon Go's upcoming introduction of Legendary Pokemon. Not only did the Pokemon appear prominently in a commercial promoting the introduction of Legendary Pokemon in the game, Lugia's face is also used as the "icon" for Legendary Raids within the game.

While it shouldn't be a surprise that Lugia was added to Pokemon Go's code recently, it does add a little bit of credence to the possibility that Lugia will be the Pokemon to appear at Pokemon Go Fest this Saturday. Pokemon Go announced that if players beat the Legendary Raid at Pokemon Go Fest, it would unlock Legendary Raids around the world.
