Mario Kart 8 Tracks Are Surrounded By Huge, Surprisingly Detailed Worlds You Barely See

Mario Kart 8 features by far the most detailed tracks in the series' long history, but you can't truly appreciate how much effort Nintendo has sunk into them by just playing the game. You only get to glimpse bits of pieces as you race by, but it turns out many Mario Kart 8 tracks are surrounded by massive, surprisingly detailed stages.

Just how massive? Well, YouTuber Shesez recently revealed the full map for Mario Kart 8's Mute City track, and it's kind of ridiculous:

Yup, that little red circle contains the entirety of the actual Mute City track. The rest is just background. Nintendo even includes the entire Red Canyon area, even though, as far as I can recall, you don't even see it as you're racing. Maybe you catch a half-second look at some red rocks – that's about it. Maybe Nintendo originally planned to make multiple F-Zero themed tracks? Or maybe there was just a huge F-Zero fan on the development team.

Nintendo also created an entire Toy Story-like room to house the Ribbon Road track:

Shesez produces a series called Boundary Break, where he unlocks the camera in various games, showing things that are out of bounds or not meant to be seen.
