More Evidence of Legendary Pokemon Found in Pokemon Go's New Update

It's happening: Legendary Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go. A new update for the game is slowly rolling out around the world, which means that dataminers are hurriedly digging into the code to find any surprises.

While most of the focus is on the brand new gym function, dataminers also discovered a couple of....interesting assets in the new code. The first is a new medal specifically for Legendary Pokemon. This medal features Lugia's head and comes (so far) in both bronze and silver.

The inclusion of a Legendary badge to Pokemon Go is important as it signals that Legendary Pokemon won't be horrifically rare. While we're assuming that Legendary Pokemon won't pop up on every street corner, game developers clearly expect players to successfully obtain multiple Legendary Pokemon.

The other new asset is a "Legendary Egg," which will be used in the new Raid feature. In Raids, powerful Pokemon will spontaneously takeover gyms and players will have one hour to work together to defeat them. Most of the raids will feature superpowered versions of non-Legendary Pokemon, but the highest level encounters will feature the Legendary Pokemon.

Players will be able to tell when a gym is about to have a Legendary Pokemon Raid as a special egg will suddenly appear above it. When the egg hatches, the Legendary Pokemon will appear for players to cooperatively battle.

Players will (initially at least) only be able to participate in Legendary Raids via a special Raid Pass that will be distributed via Niantic.

New medals for raids featuring a Rhydon head also appear in the new update.

You can check out the badges and the Legendary egg in the photo gallery. Get hyped, soon you'll have a Mewtwo or a Lugia to finally call your own.
