Overwatch Cosplayer’s Dad Builds Her An Awesome Full-Size Functional D.Va Mech

For whatever reason, you rarely see parents and kids cosplay collaborations. Sure, cosplay is largely a young person's game, and some of the more fanservice-heavy outfits may not meet with mom and dad's approval, but if your kid is super into (tastefully) dressing as video game or anime characters, why not get involved? It's probably easier and less dangerous than pushing them into football or gymnastics!

Well, Mike Carambat, who goes by Retroresource on the Internet, is definitely an involved cosplay parent. His daughter Amanda likes to dress as Overwatch Hero D.Va, so he's spent the past six months or so building her a full-size functional D.Va mech. No, really. You can check out the monstrosity in the video at the top of this post.

So, yeah, his daughter does have to somewhat awkwardly stand in a black box between it's the mech's legs, but otherwise, this thing is pretty damn impressive. The mech can "walk" and move its arms, its guns rotate and change color when "fired," and it can spout all sorts of D.Va sound clips. Aside from all that, it just looks rad, with a hatch that opens and closes and a cool light-up cockpit.

Most impressive of all? Carambat estimates the whole thing cost him less than 1000 bucks to build. Sure, that's still a chunk of change, but for a real-life mech, I'd reckon it's a pretty good deal. You can see how the mech was built on the Retroresource Instagram page.

Want to check this baby out in person? Of course, you do. Carambat and his daughter are unleashing it on MechaCon in Louisiana this weekend and Dragoncon in Atlanta this September.
