Pokemon Go's Website Hints at Imminent Gym Closures

Last week, Pokemon Go announced plans to shut down its gyms later in the summer to prep for a major renovation of its gym systems. To help prepare players for the closings, Pokemon Go promised it would give some advance notice when the shutdowns were about to start.

Earlier today, players noticed a banner on top of Pokemon Go's support website. "Heads Up," the banner reads. "Gyms will soon be closing temporarily for remodeling." Many fans are wondering if this is the start of the advanced notice and signals that a shutdown is imminent.

At the time of this article, neither Pokemon Go nor its parent company Niantic had made any other posts about the upcoming closure on their social media pages.

When the shutdown does occur, players will no longer be able to access the gyms and all defending Pokemon will return to their trainers.

The gym shutdown will allow Pokemon Go to reset its gym system, which many complained had gone stagnant due to a combination of high level players, bot accounts, and boring gameplay. Many felt it took too long to take down an enemy gym, especially when playing alone. Pokemon Go has promised the new gym system will encourage more cooperative gameplay and a better balance for all players.

When it does start, the gym shutdown will mark the beginning of Pokemon Go's big summer plans. The game has also announced a series of live events for the summer and has hinted at the introduction of Legendary Pokemon for later this year.
