Pokemon Go Acknowledges Desire to Request New PokeStops

The Niantic Support Twitter account is at it again. Earlier this week, Niantic's Twitter account (which acts as a sort of public customer service rep) on Twitter answered a question from a Pokemon Go player about how to request a new PokeStop near the player's house. The Twitter account replied that while they weren't accepting PokeStop submissions right now, they were looking at ways to enable submissions in the future.

Because this is the Internet, several websites (for instance, BGR) took this as confirmation that Pokemon Go was about to add another "highly requested" feature...even though that isn't what Niantic's tweet said.

For what it's worth, Niantic recently enabled a way for people to request and vet real world locations for "Portals" in their other game Ingress. Basically, high level Ingress players can suggest locations, which are then vetted by the larger community during set time periods. Niantic has used some of these new Ingress portals as locations for PokeStops and gyms in Pokemon Go, spurring many Pokemon Go players to pick up Ingress in the hopes of getting more PokeStops added to their area.

So - is the ability to request PokeStops coming to Pokemon Go? We're sure it's on Niantic's "to do" list, but we're guessing it's not a high priority for them. After all, they already have a successful system in place to add locations via Ingress, and they probably don't have the capacity to deal with all the requests that would likely flood in if they opened up PokeStop requests again.

This is the second time in a week that Niantic's Twitter account has made news for a pretty innocuous tweet. Last week, the account made headlines for acknowledging that fans wanted the ability to change a Pokemon's moves, which similarly got blown out of proportion.
