Japanese Retailer Hints That Pokken Tournament Is Coming to Nintendo Switch

A Japanese retailer may have leaked plans for an upcoming Pokken Tournament remake for the Nintendo Switch. The Japanese blog Sinobi, which posts new listings of various video game products, recently posted a new arcade stick controller compatable with the Nintendo Switch. Interestingly, the listing include Pokken Tournament as one of the games the new controller could be used with.

The blog post has since been changed, but it's convinced many fans that a Pokken Tournament port will be announced at E3.

Pokken Tournament was a bit of a surprise for the Wii U, as the Pokemon-fighting game became one of the console's strongest sellers. While Pokken was popular among fight game aficionados, it didn't receive much support from Nintendo or its developer Bandai Namco after its release. Notably, Bandai Namco released several more characters and stages for a Japanese arcade version, but not for the Wii U game.

As seen with the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo doesn't have an issue with porting over popular Wii U games to the Nintendo Switch. And Pokken Tournament would give the popular Pokemon franchise a presence on the Nintendo Switch, which fans have wanted since the Switch was first announced late last year.

A Nintendo Switch version of Pokken Tournament would also make sense, given the Pokemon Company's reluctance to include the fighting game in their annual video game tournaments. Pokken Tournament was a relatively late addition to the Pokemon World Championships this year, as it was announced months after qualifying tournaments for other Pokemon-related games began. It was as if The Pokemon Company was stalling to see whether a new, bolstered version of Pokken would be released prior to their big annual competitive event in August.

Of course, this is all rumor and speculation and we won't know whether Pokken Tournament is actually coming to the Nintendo Switch until E3 at the earliest.
