When a developer works on a game, usually the team pours their heart and soul into the project, trying to bring it to life in the best way possible. But then there are those that go the extra mile to make the project feel personal for them – sort of like how Call of Duty: WWII feels personal to the squad at Sledgehammer Games.

The studio's co-founder, Michael Condrey, recently spoke to GameSpot about how devoted Sledgehammer was to making the best Call of Duty game yet with WWII, and it shows in every aspect of its development. He actually points out an event that has been forgotten about in American history, the Spanish-American War, and how events such as that, as well as others in World War II, shouldn't be forgotten – no matter how long ago they were.

"We can't allow World War II to fade," he explained. "It was too important an infliction moment in human history to let it fade in the same way that the Spanish American War has faded from this country's history. That has been meaningful. That has made this the most personal and profound game I've ever worked on. I've worked on a lot of games I'm really proud of, a lot of creative games that gave me a lot of excitement and joy. None have carried the historical weight and meaning that this one has. That's been really rewarding."

The team previously spoke about possible political ties with Call of Duty: WWII, but said it's really more about the World War II themes in general. "We set in motion before that," Condrey explained. "It's still rooted in the same place, which is telling us the story of camaraderie and heroism in an important time in human history." And it'll definitely dig in to the gutsiness of the era, which should resonate with players that got into Call of Duty games long ago, when World War II was the theme at the time.

There's no doubt this game should be quite a game-changer for the Call of Duty series. We'll find out for sure when it arrives on November 3rd for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
