Marvel Announces Punisher: End Of Days

Frank Castle looks like he's gearing up for his last ride as the Punisher.

Brian Michael Bendis has revealed that he is working on a new series titled Punisher: End of Days. In the same spirit and the same world as Bendis' Daredevil: End of Days miniseries, which told the tale of how Matt Murdock may possibly day one day, Punisher: End of Days will tell the story of Frank Castle's final outing as the Punisher.

Bendis tells Marvel.com that he was "given the OK to do a Punisher: End of Days series, like we did with Daredevil. But this won't be like a sequel, but instead, kind of like a 'side-quel' with Punisher. It's in that world with The Punisher trying to attempt his final 'Punish.'"

Before telling of the Punisher's grisly end though, Frank will make an appearance in the new Defenders series Bendis is writing with artist David Marquez that will bring Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist together as a team in the Marvel Comics universe for the first time.

"What I love about [The Punisher]...is that it's like the Angel of Death comes to the story," Bendis says. "There are the good guys vs bad guys and then the Angel of Death shows up and you don't know who he is for, we don't know why and we don't know when, and it's pretty amazing. When I'm writing him, you not only hear about him and his days in other places but you also get what people think about Frank. That is so much scarier than he actually is. In real life, he is a wounded soul, but everyone's perspective of him is terror. Think about it: Whenever somebody says 'I'm going to punish you for your sins'—and everyone knows they've done something wrong—or they start to think 'what have I done for him to punish me?' you get terrified!"

The Punisher meets the Defenders in Defenders #3, coming in July 2017.

The Punisher, as played by Jon Bernthal in Marvel's Daredevil, gets his own television this November on Netflix.
