Something Is Still Happening Between Wolverine And Deadpool

12/30/2016 11:31 am EST

Wednesday saw a great debate between reporters and filmmakers as rumors of Deadpool appearing in the upcoming Logan film surfaced. Director James Mangold and stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds each debunked the rumor, clearly stating that Deadpool is not going to appear in Logan.

However, the two 20th Century Fox-owned Marvel heroes might still be up to something.

While Logan is set to be Jackman's last outing as the X-Men character, a new claim from The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit suggests the two characters might still be cooking up a little shared screentime.

"My sources say def no way [Deadpool] is in [Logan]," Kit said. "But...don't rule out something else involving Deadpool & Wolvie."

This leaves us to wonder what the "something else" could be involving to two fan-favorite characters.

While we may never see the duo appear on the big screen together, it's possible Jackman and Reynolds shot in-character promo videos for the March release of Logan. Deadpool was used in the promo material for Fantastic Four (2015), another 20th Century Fox film, so a similar stunt is the most likely to occur in this scenario.

However, with the footage originally claimed to have been shot by Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, there is a bit more room for speculation. The fan in all of us hopes that with Cable's introduction in the Deadpool sequel, we will see the two characters travel through time and land somewhere near Jackman's Wolverine. If only a cameo shot months ahead of the movie's actual production, the fans of X-Men characters would be ecstatic for the surprise appearance whenever Deadpool 2 makes its way to theaters.

Logan takes place in a somewhat distant future, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
