Wolverine 3: New Look At Caliban In Logan

Stephen Merchant will play the role of Caliban, the mutant tracker, in the upcoming Wolverine movie Logan.

Fans have already gotten a glimpse at Merchant as Caliban, and Logan's take on the character seems to be much closer to the mutant Morlock of the Marvel Comics universe than the information vendor played by Tomas Lemarquis in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Now fans are getting an additional look at Caliban thanks to an image released in Empire Magazine (via the X-MenFilms.com twitter account), and it seems things aren't going well for Caliban. The photo shows Caliban in some kind of cage. Could he have been captured by Zander Rice's organization, the same on responsible for and hunting down X-23?

Logan takes place in the year 2024, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.

Principal photography for Logan began in May and ended in August in 2016. Filming took place at locations in New Mexico, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.

Logan was said to be Jackman's final time playing Wolverine, a role he's played for more than 15 years, though there are rumors of a project involving both Deadpool and Wolverine on the horizon.

Logan opens in theaters on March 3, 2017.
