Angelina Jolie is among the actors being considered for the title role in Empress, a film based on Mark Millar and Stuart Immonen's upcoming creator-owned series from Marvel Comics's Epic imprint.
ComicBook.com has learned that the rights to the series have been optioned in a move that could potentially reunite Wanted creator Mark Millar with Jolie, who helped catapult the film to more than $300 million at the global box office.
The comic, which will launch in April, centers on the wife of a galactic dictator, who leaves him, taking her three children along. With the aid of a bodyguard, she takes the kids -- not all of whom want to be free of their father -- to her home world for refuge.
Needless to say, it's not that simple.
Empress is reported to be planned for a trilogy of six-issue miniseries.
It's rare to have an action role for a 40-year-old actress, which has created a bit of buzz around the part. Jolie is actively courting it, but our sources indicate there are at least two more names in the mix. There are a fairly limited number of age-appropriate female actresses who are action-ready, although obviously Sandra Bullock has the look, is a box office draw and is no stranger to roles that require her to kick some ass (no Mark Millar pun intended there).
