Star Wars: The Force Awakens Projected for Half-Billion Dollar 10 Day Total

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens train continues to truck along, posting a $38 million Wednesday in the domestic box office, seeing a slight growth over Tuesday's record day. It's not a new record for Wednesday, though, as that belongs to a Twilight movie that launched on a Wednesday. Still, that put it well past $350 million (around $363M total) and well on its way to another set of records.
The film should now hit half a billion dollars in domestic box office on Sunday, hitting that landmark in just 10 days. That far outstrips the current record, held by June 2015's Jurassic World of 17 days for $500 million. The second weekend for the movie, boosted by Christmas holiday numbers, should hit $150 million, and could go over $160M. If that was an opening weekend, it'd be between the 7th and 10th all-time. As a second weekend, it should beat the record by about 50% - beating (who else?) Jurassic World's $106.6 million second weekend.
After this weekend, Jurassic World falls away, and Avatar and Titanic step up as the new record-holders to beat. Avatar holds weekends 3-7, and Titanic still owns 8-12. Avatar, of course, still owns the domestic and worldwide gross records, as well, with $760.5 million domestic and $2.79 billion as the worldwide total. The first looks beatable, but the second is still a massive longterm challenge.
