Universal Pictures Congratulates Star Wars On Taking Opening Weekend Title From Jurassic World

Universal Pictures has congratulated Star Wars: The Force Awakens on taking its opening weekend box office record away from Jurassic World.
Jurassic World nabbed the record for largest opening weekend at the domestic box office earlier this year with $208 million domestically. This past weekend, Star Wars unleashed its Force on the box office, shattering all sorts of records, but specifically, it hauled in $238 million in its first three days of release.
Those numbers are only domestic figures. Worldwide, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has also climbed ahead of Jurassic World's opening weekend, earning an estimated $528 million to Jurassic World's $525 million. That's a lot of money.
Always good to see good sportsmanship and competition in the industry.
When Frank Marshall and George Lucas ran into each other on the red carpet, Lucas told Marshall he would squash him like a bug.
This is not the first time one blockbuster congratulated another in breaking its record. When Jurassic World took the crown from Marvel's The Avengers, Marvel Studios congratulated Jurassic World with a similar tweet - that time with a photo of the Avengers admiring Chris Pratt riding a dinosaur and carrying Thor's hammer.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now playing in theaters.
