Game of Thrones Creator George R.R. Martin is to Blame for 2016

2016 has been a rough year, filled with everything from political turmoil to the deaths of so many iconic celebrities - the latest being the loss of singer George Michael and near-loss of Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher over the Christmas holiday.

As of now, many people are just trying to close out the last days of the year without more big loss; indeed, 2016 has been filled with so many high-profile deaths that it's become a superstitious legend in the making. People have jokingly (or not so jokingly) sought someone or something to blame for how sh*tty of a years it's been, and one person is stepping up to claim responsibility.

Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin is the subject of a parody acccount, which posted the following to Twitter:

That's a bit of gallows humor, but it honestly works. Martin has been accused of being a sadist when it comes to traumatize fans with shocking (and often gruesome) character deaths - so naturally, 2016 feels like a volume of one of his books - or a season of the HBO show.

Of course, Martin's books all tend to end with one more shocking kill and/or development: so let's maybe hope 2016 isn't going to follow Game of Thrones to the very last letter.
