Game Of Thrones: Is This Daenerys Targaryen's New Throne?

The title of Game of Thrones may be getting a bit more literal in the show's penultimate season.

New photos may have revealed a throne to rival the Iron Throne over which the War of the Five Kings was fought.

The photos come from the Instagram account of Rhys Towey, a software developer who visited Titanic Studios in Belfast. Titanic Studios is where Game of Thrones shoots many of its interior scenes.

And now for the tale of two thrones. First, there's a shot of the throne room at the Red Keep in King's Landing, where the Iron Throne sits.

The Iron Throne looks as it always has, but there's been one key modification to the throne room itself. Where once there was a seven-pointed star hanging over the Iron Throne, now there is a Lannister lion.

Given the explosive way the conflict between Cersei Lannister and the Sparrows ended in Game of Thrones Season 6, it isn't terribly surprising that Queen Cersei has decided to push for a separation of church and state in the Seven Kingdoms going forward.

And now we're moving into more serious SPOILER territory. You've been warned.

Previous reports revealed the Dany is going to be landing on Dragonstone, just off the east coast of Westeros. Dragonstone is an island fortress and the ancestral home of the House Targaryen. From Dragonstone, Aegon the Conqueror took control of most of Westeros. After Robert's Rebellion, King Robert gave Dragonstone to Stannis Baratheon to serve as the seat of his own branch of House Baratheon, dubbed House Baratheon of Dragonstone.

Since Stannis was killed, along with his wife and only child, and his forces were defeated, Dragonstone is now presumably unoccupied and uncontrolled territory. That makes it the perfect seat of power for a restored House Targaryen.

Game of Thrones Season 7 has been filming some shots of Dragonstone at Itzurun Beach in Zumaia, which has a distinctive look thanks to its flysch rock formations. Those rock formations seem to have been the inspiration for the throne room seen in this second photo, which houses a very different throne.

That certainly looks like a throne befitting the Mother of Dragons. Is this the seat from which Dany will wage war against the Lannisters and their allies in an attempt to regain the Iron Throne? It seems like a pretty safe bet, but we won't know anything for sure until we visit Dragonstone in Game of Thrones Season 7.
