Power Rangers: New Rita Repulsa Takes Over Image

The Power Rangers movie reboot arrives next year, and Lionsgate has done a good job of using social media to promote every bit of the film. Fans of the Power Rangers franchise have been curious about how director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is reimagining elements of mythos, and they've gotten plenty of insight into that very thing (for better or worse).

However, while elements like the new Zords or Alpha 5 have been kind of divisive, one of the more dynamic and fan-approved aspects of the reboot has been the new version of Rita Repulsa. Played by Elizabeth Banks, the new Rita has invited a bit of mockery (Loki and Hunger Games comparisons being the most prevalent), but has still been one of the strongest promotional tools for the movie.

Check out a new image of Banks as Rita Repulsa:

The marketing plan behind the #RepulsaTakesOver announcement remains to be seen, but it's clear evidence that the marketing team at Lionsgate has embraced Banks' villain character as the "better foot" their putting forward. Given how the actual Power Rangers squad is made up of relatively unknown actors, while big names like Bryan Cranston and Bill Hader won't actually have their famous faces featured in characters like Zordon and Alpha 5 (respectively), putting Banks front and center is, in some ways, the only real PR movie.
