Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #22 Details Tease New Villain

BOOM! Studios' flagship Power Rangers series is ringing in the end of the year with a bang, and it could very well include the debut of a new villain.

BOOM! revealed some new details on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #22 as well as some covers for the issue (via Power Rangers NOW). The most eye-catching thing is the official synopsis, which teases the emergence of a new villain for the Rangers. It reads "With tensions building between them, the Rangers put aside their differences and unite with Promethea to take down a great new threat."

For those who aren't familiar with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Promethea is the organization run by sometimes ally Grace, though half the time she is just a thorn in the Ranger's sides. The two have worked together before, but there is always the underlying feeling that Promethea only helps to fulfill their own secret goals, and that has in the past rubbed the Rangers in the wrong way.

The synopsis also teases that the two will have to work together to take down a new threat, though there aren't any details on who or what that might end up being. Thus far the Rangers have faced Rita Repulsa and her normal horde of minions, as well as the powerful Lord Drakkon and his Black Dragon Zord. Issue #22 lands after the Rangers take a trip back to the 1960's, so this new enemy could very well be a lingering issue from that storyline.

If not, it could always be a character from the Mighty Morphin archives, though the description makes it sound like a new addition as opposed to a new take on a classic character.

This could also have something to do with Lord Drakkon as well. The character was defeated by the Rangers in the Dark Universe, but when they returned they also unwittingly brought him with them. Little has been heard from him since, but it probably won't stay that way.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #22 is written by Kyle Higgins with art by Jonas Scharf, and covers are provided by Jamal Campbell, Steve Morris, Dan Mora, and Quest Matthews-Martial.

You can view the new covers in the gallery, and the issue hits comic stores this December.
