Power Rangers Casts Bill Hader

It looks like one of Hollywood's biggest comedians is joining Power Rangers. In a recent report, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the actor will be playing Alpha 5 in the upcoming flick, and the film's official Twitter just posted a promo image about the casting announcement.

Known for his work on Saturday Night Live, Bill will bring well-timed comedy to one of the most beloved characters from the Power Rangers franchise. Alpha 5 was introduced in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and worked alongside Zordon as a cute robotic companion. The character is perhaps best known for his excited "Aye-yi-yi!" calls that signaled its distress or joy. In the television series, Alpha 5 was very close to each of the Power Rangers and acted as a younger sibling to the members.

Currently, there's no word on how Bill will play the character. As Alpha 5 is a robot, it is likely that the actor will provide vocal talents for the film rather than opt in for any motion-capture filming.

Bill is just one of many talented actors that has signed onto Power Rangers. The full cast features Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, and more. Many of the actual Rangers are being played by newer actors like RJ Cyler, Becky G., Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott and Dacre Montgomery.

This announcement comes closely after Lionsgate teased fans with all-new images from the much-anticipated film. Earlier this week, the studio released individual character posters which gave fans a better look at the film's powerful Zords. And, last month, fans got another up-close image of Rita Repulsa in all her - well - repulsive glory. At a recent licensing expo, fans were also given better photos of the Power Rangers suited up in their new hi-tech costumes.

Moving into the future, fans can expect several more big Power Rangers updates as New York Comic Con grows closer. The studio is expected to tease attendees with a first-look at the film and assemble the film's Rangers on stage to talk about the project.

Power Rangers stars Bryan Cranston (Zordon), Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), David Denman (Sam Scott), Becky G. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Sarah Grey (Amanda), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Emily Maddison (Rebecca), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger).

will hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
