Power Rangers: Jason David Frank Reveals Surprising Reason Why They Got Rid Of The Green Ranger

The Green Ranger is still one of the most popular Power Rangers to this day, so fans were taken aback during the show's original run when he was written off of the show, though there was a specific reason for it.

Jason David Frank spoke to That Hashtag Show about his involvement with another Saban property, VR Troopers. He explains what led to that series and ultimately to his return to Power Rangers.

"So what happened was the Green Ranger was super popular. They "killed me off the show", lost my powers, and then what I did was sent to a show called Cybertron, which was VR Troopers. Cybertron we ended up selling it worldwide, about 60 to 70% of the world. I was very excited to have my own studio, and it was similar to Power Rangers, the Cybertron character was cool, so I loved my character."

Unfortunately, his new gig didn't last long, thanks to fan backlash at the loss of the Green Ranger.

"They said we have an issue, and I said what's the issue? You lost your powers from the show, and kids around the world, parents, and everyone are calling and saying hey, my kid's not going to eat, they're not going to school, so Saban and FOX freaked out and brought me back on the show as the White Ranger. It's a true story, they had a petition around petitioning "we need to bring the Green Ranger back."

So you might assume they would just rewrite some stuff and bring him back, right? Well, as some Power Rangers fans know, the combat scenes are mostly from the original Sentai versions of the show, and that presented Saban and Tommy with a problem.

"So we ran out of Green Ranger footage, so couldn't bring the Green Ranger back, so they went to the next season and brought me back as the White Ranger, which I thought was just as cool."

Since then Frank has brought back the Green Ranger role during Power Rangers Megaforce, and would end up following up his White Ranger gig by becoming the Red Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo. It's been quite a run, and you never know when the Green Ranger will show up once again.

You can find the description for the current season of Power Rangers Ninja Steel below, which is expected to return with new episodes later this year.

"With the franchise's 24th season, Saban Brands' Power Rangers Ninja Steel starts deep in space, where Galvanax is the reigning champion of the most popular intergalactic game show in the universe in which monsters battle to prove who is the mightiest warrior. Galvanax is determined to become invincible by controlling the mythical Ninja Nexus Prism, which contains six supernatural Ninja Power Stars. The only thing standing in his way is a new team of heroic teenage Power Rangers who possess it. The evil Galvanax sends his warrior contestants down to Earth to steal the Ninja Power Stars, where each epic battle against the Power Rangers is broadcast throughout the universe. Together, the Rangers must master their arsenal of Ninja Power Stars, Zords and Megazords, each made of legendary Ninja Steel, in order to stop this evil threat and save Earth from destruction."

Power Rangers Ninja Steel stars Brody Romero (Red Ninja Steel Ranger), Calvin Maxwell (Yellow Ninja Steel Ranger), Chrystiane Lopes (Pink Ninja Steel Ranger), Hayley Roster (White Ninja Steel Ranger), Jordi Webber (Gold Ninja Steel Ranger), Caleb Bendit (Monty), Kelson Henderson (Mick Kanic), and Chris Sean Reid (Victor Vincent).

Power Rangers Ninja Steel is currently airing on Saturdays at 12 pm ET on Nickelodeon and returns with new episodes on August 12th. Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel hits in 2018.
