Power Rangers: Rumored Zordon Origin Details Surface

If you were a fan of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, then you are probably aware that the series will be revived next year thanks to Lionsgate. The studio is slated to release Power Rangers, a 2017 live-action adaptation of the acclaimed show, and fans are interested to see how the film will do. Those fans only become more hyped for the movie when it was announced that Bryan Cranston had been cast as Zordon, but don't expect the wise character to be just like his small-screen counterpart.

According to recent rumors, it looks like Zordon will be a bit different from how fans remember him.
In a report by The Wrap, the site is alleging that Zordon been gifted an altered backstory for Power Rangers. Apparently, Cranston's character was the original Red Ranger during the prehistoric era and was transformed into a "state of pure energy" thanks to Rita Repulsa, no doubt.
Of course, part of this origin story should sound familiar to fans of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Before the original series took place, Zordon was at war with Rita Repulsa and her minions. The two fought for more than 2,000 years while Zordon began collecting Power Coins to defeat Rita. The war only ended when Zordon challenged his enemy to to a duel wherein they decided the fate of the universe. Using the Power Coins, Zordon won a coin toss and was able to seal Rita away on Moon - but the villainess retaliated by exiling Zordon into a time warp for all eternity.
What is new is Zordon's status as the original Red Ranger. In the show, much of Zordon's past is kept shadowed save for the fact he hailed from Eltar. In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Zordon and his robotic assistant Alpha 5 were the ones who created and mentored the first Power Ranger team after Rite escaped her intergalactic prison. It was Jason Lee Scott who became the first Red Ranger, but Power Rangers might retcon that history to give Zordon a more compelling past.
"Saban's Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove - and the world - is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. (Trini/Yellow Ranger), Sarah Grey (Amanda), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Emily Maddison (Rebecca), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger), and Dacre Montgomery (Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger).
